A party Well Worth Crashing

We were so excited to learned that all four of the Yeager Kids were in attendance the morning I spoke at Emmanuel Faith Tabernacle in Marysville, California. Pastor Tom Estabrook explained that David Yeager Sr. was celebrating his 85th birthday and that a number of his family were there.

I had not seen Dava, Carrie, Lori and David since they were children. To see them now, grown up and with children of their own was a treat.

Their dad David, was a great guy and a dedicated missionary who was killed in an accident while dismantling a building given for the work in Mexico. Marci and I were privileged to have had David Yeager perform our wedding ceremony just over 40 years ago.

Also, there that day and also a relative of the Yeagers was Naomi Webb and all four of her daughters, Sherylyn, Cindy, Shelly and Stacy, and their families. So thankful to have been able to get in on this California reunion.

Rubbing Shoulders With Celebs . . .

On the last night of our Kids Crusade in Channelview, Texas we were privileged to meet Torie Halbert, contestant on HGTV's Season 4 Design Star. Last summer we had learned via facebook that Family Church member Torie was a contestant and could be seen on HGTV. We followed the series all summer and were excited to talk with her at the close of the service on Wednesday night. In conversation we learned that Torie had a live weekly segment on "Great Day Houston" on KHOU TV every Thursday morning that featured a monthly drawing for a $10,000 "Room Makeover " sponsored by Ashley Furniture and designed by Torie.

The next morning Marci, our daughter Amy, Patsy Hyman and her daughter Rachel Witt fought early morning Houston traffic to make their way to KHOU to be part of the live studio audience. Observing that the cameras panned the studio audience several times, Amy was excited about being on TV. That night, finding the program on the internet, we all watched as Marci, Patsy and Rachel were shown several times but Amy was nowhere to be seen. It seems that every time the cameras panned across the audience they always stopped just millimeters before reaching Amy. I guess Amy will have to wait for a next time to be a TV star.

"Off To A Good Start"

Couldn't have started our summer Kid's Ministry tour better than by having our daughter Amy and 3 year old grand-daughter Jordan join us for 10 days in early June.

Son-in-law Matt drove down to Houston to meet us for the week-end. Spent a fun Friday evening at the Keemah Boardwalk watching our girls (Marci, Amy and Jordan) enjoy the rides and all of us watching a spectacular fireworks show over Galveston Bay.

At Family Church in Channelview, Texas, Jordan experienced her first Kids Crusade conducted by "Grandmere" and "Grandpere". After being picked to hold a memory verse card, Jordan asked "Grandmere" to pick her the next night. Marci explained that she had to be fair and give other boys and girls a turn. Thinking about that for just a moment Jordan replied "No Grandmere just pick me every time!" I guess the "sharing" concept hasn't quite kicked in yet!

FORTY YEARS AGO......

Sunday, June 13 found us concluding a Kids Crusade at Freedom Center's Crossway Church in Walker, Louisiana with Pastor Jeff and Debbie Cambre. It also happened to be our 40th Wedding Anniversary. That afternoon we headed for New Orleans to spend the rest of our Special Day with our daughters Jeana and Amy and three year old grandaughter Jordan. Three for the price of one - not bad for husband-father-grandfather Scott. On Tuesday AM before leaving the Big Easy, Jeana's boss took us to Surrey's Cafe on Magazine Street, a little hole in the wall breakfast dive she frequents. Wow! best grits with shrimp creole sauce I've ever had and Marci had to fight off Amy and I with her fork to keep us from eating up her crawfish etoufee with crab omelette. Great post weekend spent with my four favorite girls.

Isle de Pecan

Love to visit and minister to the sweet folks at Glad Tidings Church in Pecan Island. Remembering back 4 years ago when every single resident on the island was displaced by the roof high tidal surge generated by hurricane Rita. From September through December our church in Abbeville grew with the addition of a number of these displaced parishoners. A love, a closeness, a friendship developed between ourselves and these wonderful people.
It is my opinion that no Pastors could be more loved and honored by their congregation than Steve and Sheila Delino - and no couple more deserving.
Last Sunday these Pastors royally welcomed Marci and I and our Canadian friends. After preaching we retreated to the parsonage where we treated to Sheila's (outstanding) corn and crab soup (multiple servings).
That afternoon a final highlight was our first airboat ride in the marsh canals between P.I. and White lake. A memorable day!

TREASURED FRIENDS

Jesus made brief reference to a treasure room that held things both new and old. (Matthew 13:52) In recent days we've had the delightful priveledge of connecting with "treasured friends" both new and old.
What a joy to minister for Gerald and Julie Daigle, our new friends, who pastor Christian Church in Pierre Part, Louisiana, an interesting community on the east edge of the Atchafalaya Basin where bayous and cypress swamps and spillway crawfish abound. Standard on the menu at the local diner is "turtle stew".
Two days later, back at home in Abbeville, we welcomed old friends Jack and Cathy daSilva from British Columbia. Our connection goes back to 1975 when we held a childrens meeting at Kingsway Foursquare in Vancouver, Canada.
When we spoke by phone in April, I warned that it would be hotter here than what they were accustomed to. "Oh don't worry about us," Cathy replied, "we've had sweltering summer days here in B.C. getting up to 70 or even 75 degrees."
I felt so sorry for Jack and Cathy as we showed them around Acadiana in 95 plus degree temperatures, seeing them wilt, scrambling for every shade tree or porch they found on the tours. How fun it was to reminisce and catch up our lives with these good friends -- treasures both new and old.

Sunday May 30

Three years ago May 30th - we resigned as pastors of Vermilion Tabernacle. This brought about a lot of changes in our lives - uncertainty in the beginning, but we have seen God open doors for us that we could not have imagined. We are back in Children's ministry and on the road again. This next week we are preparing for our summer Kids Krusades and camps. Throughout the next 2 months we will be in 6 different states spreading the gospel to children. We begin in Walker LA, Texas, flying to California, then on to Arkansas, Illinois, and Alabama. We arrive in the middle of August. We still have openings for August and the Fall- if you know of anyone who has an interest in hosting a Kids Krusade, please contact us.
